Jane Peterson
At Home and Abroad
Runs through January 28, 2018
Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury CT.

This retrospective of modernist painter Jane Peterson (1876-1965) reflects the lifelong creative output of an artist who started her career as an American Impressionist before World War I and who evolved to become an Expressionist in the latter part of her life. Subjects include her impressionist paintings of France, Venice and the gardens at the estate of her friend Louis Comfort Tiffany; her loosely brushed, softly colored scenes of Turkey and Egypt; and her bold, bright modernist interpretations of her home cities of New York, Gloucester and Palm Beach. Peterson’s colorful and festive subjects are expressive reflections of her zest for life and prodigious energy. Jane Peterson: At Home and Abroad unites her work in one location for the first time in over 40 years, showing the breadth of both her skill and subjects.
